Memories of 2012... With a Twist...

I'm starting a blog!

Mostly because I love to write and at the moment I have so many thoughts going on in my head. It's refreshing to get them out and onto paper.

Also because Mum and many other friends (mostly Mum) encouraged me to do so. Mum also wants me to write a book. She mentioned it once... Now I can't stop thinking about it.

Cheeky...

Anyway, I thought today would be a fantastic time to start this blog. Why? Because it's the 31st of December. The last day of 2012. Tomorrow will be 2013. Next year.

Heaps of my friends tend to do a "memories of [insert year just past]" type thing each year and I thought I could do something like that but with a twist. I'm going to look at my God's provisions in 2012.

This idea struck me last night as I was reading 1 Corinthians 10 (in my brand new study Bible!). Paul starts the chapter with:

"For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers and sisters, that our ancestors were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea. They all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ."

Cloud? Sea? Spiritual food and drink and rock? I had to look these up. And my handy dandy new Bible said:

The cloud signifies God's guidance of the Israelites and the sea signifies God's climactic act of deliverance - It's talking about the time of Moses and how God "delivered" His Israelites by parting the Red Sea and how He let the sea come crashing down on the Egyptians.

Paul wanted to remind the Corinthians that God provided for His people. He provided them with a way out. He delivered them. Ultimately, with Jesus.

  1. Was just reading through Hebrews before I read your wonderful blog & this verse particually stood out to me & I hope it is an encouragement to you:
"Through Jesus, therefore let us contiually offer God a sacrifice of praise- the fruit of lips that confess His name." Hebrews 13: 15 & 16
